1. Boston Area Hotels

Boston Green Tourism provides hotels with information and tools that help them improve their environmental performance, cut costs and attract business.

BGT members have achieved over 40 green certifications. Some have cut energy and water use by over 40%, and have recycling rates of over 60%.

BGT improves hotel environmental performance in the following ways:

  • Workshops: We organize 8 workshops per year at local hotels. Speakers discuss advances in hotel energy efficiency, water efficiency, waste reduction, toxics use reduction, transportation, food and green hotel marketing. The workshops provide an opportunity to network with colleagues and green vendors.
  • Newsletters: We publish and distribute 25 newsletters per year about the cutting edge of the green hotel movement in Boston and the U.S. See archived editions in the Newsletters section of this website.
  • Green Hotel Training Sessions: We provide these sessions at member hotels:

          - How U.S. Hotels Save Money and Attract Business by Going Green. We cover how hotels benefit from being green; how they organize for success; and how they

reduce energy, water, waste and toxins.

          - How U.S. Hotels Publicize and Market Their Green Properties.

         -  How to Live a Green Lifestyle and Cut Your Bills.

  • Technical Assistance: We answer hoteliers’ questions and conduct research for them.
  • Certifications: We help hotels achieve green certification.
  • Incentives: We help hotels reap utility incentives.
  • Vendors: We introduce hoteliers to qualified vendors, and connect them with peers who have used the vendors’ products and services.
